My Number One Piece of Wedding Planning Advice

Panic! I was sitting in the bridal suite of my wedding venue, in my gown, wondering where on earth my make-up artist was. It was almost time for the ceremony to start and we still hadn’t started my make-up or hair. We were running SO late. To make matters worse, somehow my guests, who had all arrived, could see right into the room where I was getting ready. They were all staring at me as if I was some sort of exotic fish behind the glass at an aquarium. My worst fear had come true …

Thankfully, it was only a dream. Actually, it was more of a nightmare, a recurring nightmare that haunted me during the lead up to our wedding day. As much as I’d like to say I was a stress-free bride, this dream paints a different picture. The subconscious doesn’t lie and, to be honest, I think it’s perfectly normal to be nervous about one of the biggest days of your life. It’s a pretty huge life choice that shouldn’t be taken lightly.

Side note: Fortunately, we were perfectly on time for my actual wedding day and none of my guests (besides my lovely bridesmaids and mama bear) saw me getting ready. Phew.

The one piece of advice that I received that I believe kept us grounded was this:

If at the end of the day, you and your significant other are married, the day was a roaring success – the rest is bonus!

I tell all of my brides this exact advice ☝️

Here’s the truth:

Things will go wrong on your wedding day.

It doesn’t matter how prepared you are, you can’t control the weather, the teething flower girl, people who misread your seating arrangements, the priest making awkward jokes, guests wearing white – how rude! The list is endless.

What you can control is your focus. Remember what this wedding day is all about – celebrating your marriage! I think it’s so easy to get caught up in all the planning of this monumental day, that it becomes hard to see the wood for the trees.

If you make your wedding day more about your marriage than anything else, I can (almost) guarantee you that no matter what comes your way, you WILL have the BEST. DAY. EVER!

How about you, lovely, do you have any wedding day advice to share? ✨
