Bianca and Ryan's wedding epitomises just how sublime an intimate wedding celebration can be. Theirs…
Kylene and Mladen | Shepstone Gardens – Johannesburg
If 2020 has taught us anything, it’s that love is not only an important thing, it’s the most important thing.
Kylene and Mladen are the epitome of this revelation. By now, they should have been known as Mr and Mrs Colic, and as difficult and heartbreaking their postponement must have been for them, they have met it with such grace.
In their hearts, they are already married and, for them, the day they officially wed will be the biggest bonus.
Before I share more of their love story, a message to Ky and M: the two of you are exactly what’s right with this world. The love you share is not only inspirational but it’s the kind that will move mountains. Yours is a love for the ages and I look forward to watching your story unfold in years to come.
Kylene and Mladen’s Story
They met on an adventure of a lifetime back in 2018 where they participated in MAD2Ride and MAD2Run. M cycled and Kylene ran 1600km from Joburg to Cape Town (with a group of other MADsters) in 8 days, in order to raise money for the MAD Leadership Foundation.
Kylene reminisces, “We met on the road to Cape Town, doing what we are both passionate about (cycling, running, adventuring, exploring our beautiful country and making a difference where we can). It is really special that in March 2020, M and I both did MAD2Ride together and enjoyed an amazing and challenging adventure of cycling to Cape Town again.”
“When I first saw M, I thought, “jeeeez this guy is hot!” And then when we started talking for the first time, I thought, “wow he is just so genuine” and I could see in his eyes that he had a good heart. He struck me as the perfect gentleman. And that has continued to be true throughout our relationship.”
Mladen recalls, “I was drawn to her laugh, her smile and energy. I just knew I wanted to get her attention and did whatever I could to get it. I obviously thought she was the most beautiful woman I’d ever seen, too”.
The Proposal
We went away to Clarens for the weekend. We were busy hiking in the beautiful Golden Gate mountains and had stopped for a break in a beautiful and peaceful ravine, when M suddenly got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. It is the first time in M’s life that he has seen me speechless! He then whipped out a bottle of champagne that he had snuck into his hiking bag and we just sat on the rocks drinking champagne, laughing, smiling and drinking in all the love and excitement.
Q: What do you love to do together?
Kylene: We are best friends and one of the greatest qualities of our relationship is that we love doing everything together! What we love doing most together is going for a ride and having lunch and beers thereafter. We also love our movie and cuddle nights on the couch, pigging out on chocolate.
Q: What has 2020 taught you as a couple?
Kylene: “2020 brought us together much closer as a couple (even more than we already were) and our relationship grew even stronger as we navigated the very challenging year. 2020 showed us that the most important thing is that we have found our soulmate, best friend and life partner and that a wedding is really just a big bonus.
Q: What do you look forward to most once you are married?
Kylene: We feel like we are already married in our hearts. But we cannot wait to be married and to both wear our rings, which is a beautiful symbol of our commitment and lifelong promise.
